The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Houston sponsored another educational, and fun, Sheltie Day on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Judy Ramsey described Temperament Testing puppies and dogs. Sherry Wallis explained how to use body language and voice tones to talk to your dog in a language that the DOG understands. A panel made up of Thelma Mauldin, Dan and Allana Hemenway, Vicki King, and DeNise Clemens discussed how to raise a puppy from birth to 5 months of age. After lunch, Joy Bass gave an overview of Herding, including AKC titles, herding courses, and training. Concurrently, Dr. M. Dikeman discussed Reproduction, Puppy Delivery, and Neonatal Care. Afterwards, Lynn Newman led a description and practice of canine massage while Guy Mauldin talked about assessing a puppy for conformation from a Standard's perspective. Then it was time for audience participation. Sandra Marr gave a rules review and run throughs of the new AKC obedience class, Beginning Novice. On the other side of the room Sherry Wallis judged a puppy match, with sheltie puppies from 3 months to 18 months. The pictures below show only a fraction of the education and fun that is Sheltie Day! |
